UNFREEZE YOUR CREDIT

Ready to get new credit.
Victims of identity theft don’t have it easy. It’s bad enough to have your information stolen, then you must go through the process of notifying creditors and protecting your finances!

One of the most important steps is to “freeze” your credit with each of the three major credit repositories – TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. This prevents identity thieves from opening new credit accounts in your name.

But what happens when you want to access new credit?

How to “Unfreeze” or “Thaw” Your Credit:

When you are ready to allow a potential lender, employer, insurance agent or other requestor to run a new credit report, you will need to grant access, or “unfreeze” your credit. You can lift the freeze permanently or temporarily for a specific creditor or set time period.

Fortunately, the credit repositories have made it easy to do. Just revisit their sites using the credentials you established when you set up the credit freeze and follow the online prompts. The freeze should be lifted within an hour.

The sites to visit are:
  • Experian.com
  • Transunion.com
  • Equifax.com
